January

1. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Releasing on January 18 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The last full-fledged Prince of Persia game was released almost 14 years ago - in 2010 (it was The Forgotten Sands). Since then, new titles have appeared, but they were aimed at mobile devices, with one - The Dagger of Time - for VR devices.

Obviously, gamers have been eager for a new "Prince," and the younger generation needs to be introduced to the good old days. The Lost Crown will be the right game - a 2D platformer (with a characteristic 3D style, of course), as the trend for retro gaming is at its peak.

The gameplay, judging by the trailer, is expected to be chaotic and fast-paced. The main character, however, is not of royal blood and is not rescuing a princess: it's Sargon from the Immortals clan, and his goal is to rescue the kidnapped prince, Gassan.

2. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Releasing on January 26 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

A continuation of the story of Japanese mafiosos. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be a direct sequel to the games Yakuza: Like a Dragon and the recently released spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

The distinctive feature of the new installment is that the game's events will take place outside of Japan for the first time - in the US, or rather, in Hawaii. However, not everything will be leaving Japan.

In Infinite Wealth, new characters will appear, the protagonist Kazuma Kiryu will return, and the typical immersion into the complex gangster life of the series will begin. Understanding what is happening will be easier for those who are familiar with the series.

3. Tekken 8

Releasing on January 26 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

It's been a while since new Tekken games have been released, which is often positioned as a direct competitor to Street Fighter (and currently, Street Fighter 6). Tekken 8 was announced back in 2022, and since then, the publisher has been gradually revealing details about the fighting game.

Tekken 8 is planning to introduce new gameplay mechanics to the series, including access to enhanced attacks (Heat mode) and health regeneration. Most of the previous characters will return (there are 29 of them), and there will be three newcomers, promising destructible environments, super moves, and other perks.

The game is expected to have improved graphics, although the claim that it "maximizes the potential of modern hardware" is a bit concerning. However, that's a trait of the game engine, Unreal Engine 5.

February

4. Persona 3 Reload

Releasing on February 2 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The title suggests that this is a remake of the game Persona 3, which was released in 2006. In the era of endless reboots and remakes, this is not surprising, especially after a long period of time has passed. Moreover, it is said that fans of the series were quite insistent in their requests for a "new old" Persona 3.

Persona 3 Reload will be as faithful as possible to the original, but it will also have a modern shine in terms of both graphics and gameplay. Changes will be made to the appearance of the characters, but this was done by the original game's artist, so he can be trusted.

5. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Releasing on February 2 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

This is the second attempt for Kill the Justice League to reach gamers: the first attempt was planned for May 2023 but didn't work out.

Suicide Squad is part of the Batman: Arkham series, and the developers at Rocksteady Studios know it inside out. In the game, players will help uncover the secret behind the creation of the "X" Task Force (aka the "Suicide Squad") under the command of Amanda Waller. In the process, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark will actively interact with the gang of superheroes from the "Justice League."

The game will have a single-player mode where players can switch between characters, as well as a four-player co-op mode.

6. Skull and Bones

Releasing on February 16 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna.

This game is about pirates and treasure hunting, all accompanied by the cries of a one-legged parrot. Since the early stages of development (Skull and Bones was announced in 2017), the game has been positioned as an adventure with a touch of turn-based tactics in an open world for exploration.

Skull and Bones will feature a single-player campaign set somewhere in the Indian Ocean, as well as cooperative play with five other players for PvP battles in disputed waters. You will receive a ship, but you can improve it: there are 10 different types of vessels available for various tasks and needs.

You will have to fight against regular enemies, as well as sea creatures and weather conditions. By the way, the weather will affect the balance of power during battles.

7. Pacific Drive

Releasing on February 22 for PC and PlayStation 5.

This is a single-player survival horror game with a quite unusual setting. You won't have to walk on foot much here: your trusty old car will be the main means of transportation and survival. It's probably a station wagon, but not diesel-powered and probably not a Volkswagen.

Players will be sent to an Olympic exclusion zone with its supernatural forces and unknown dangers (sounds like "Stalker" on a budget). And in all other aspects, it follows the familiar algorithm of resource gathering, clashes with the unknown, attempts to reach the promised land, and survive.

The car will take up a significant part of your time: used cars are all the same, and here you will have to not only worry about repairs but also about protection. When things get really bad, you will have to visit the garage. It sounds very realistic.

8. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth

Releasing on February 29 for PlayStation 5.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will be the second part of a trilogy that offers a new perspective on the original Final Fantasy VII from 1997. The game is a standalone product that describes the events of Final Fantasy VII: Remake when the main characters leave Midgar.

Understanding the intricacies of FF VII is only possible for its fans: it intertwines a vast mythology of the popular game series, and it's unlikely that someone unfamiliar with the franchise will grasp all the separate parts. Adding to its appeal is the genre blending in gameplay mechanics: there will be action, role-playing, strategy, and everything your heart desires.

March

9. Homeworld 3

Releasing on March 8 for PC.

A real-time space strategy game. There are many of them, but Homeworld has always been overlooked: the first game in the series was released in 1999, the second part came out quite promptly - a few years later, but then there was a lull and attempts to find itself in Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.

The developers have carefully listened to common sense, so one of the key elements of Homeworld 3 will be a substantial single-player campaign, but they will also implement co-op with slightly modified gameplay.

As stated, Homeworld 3 has added new giant abandoned ships of an ancient civilization to the classic mechanics of battles, which will become new arenas for clashes. Interfering with the process will be harsh space phenomena like proton storms or asteroid fields. But the main thing in Homeworld 3, as Steve Ballmer once shouted from the stage, is tactics - "Tactics, tactics, tactics!"

10. Alone in the Dark

Releasing on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Yes, you didn't imagine it: this is a variation on the theme of the original horror game Alone in the Dark, which was released in 1992. The developers have brought in the fog, positioning the project as a "reimagining" of the first game in the popular franchise.

This could mean a return to the origins (taking into account the demands of modern gamers) as well as possible experiments. But in favor of the first option is the quote from the developers: "This love letter to the famous original will allow you to see the story again through the eyes of one of the two main characters."

The main characters are the same: private detective Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood. They set out to find Emily's uncle, Jeremy Hartwood. The new game has a "over-the-shoulder" view, the camera will not be fixed as in the original, and the arsenal will include something shooting and cutting, but without frills.

September

11. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Releasing on September 9 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

A shooter set in the cult Warhammer universe, it allows players to don the armor of an Imperial Space Marine and engage in battles against the Tyranids. The cunning aliens invaded when it seemed like order had been restored. In short, no peace, thus began the Fourth Tyranid War, and the tyrannids will be accompanied by warriors of Chaos and Thousand Sons, in particular.

The main character will be Lieutenant Titus of the Ultramarines (voiced by Clive Standen), who was previously stripped of his captain rank by the Inquisition. He underwent the Rubicon Primaris and became stronger. In general, it's another convoluted story for the uninitiated, but it's also quite intriguing.

The next section includes games that have not yet received a specific release date but are expected to be revealed to the public in 2024.

12. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Expected to be released in the first quarter of 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X/S (available from the start on Game Pass).

This is one of the most anticipated games of the year, but it has been under this banner for a long time. This time, there are reasonable grounds to believe that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will finally reach gamers.

In Heart of Chornobyl, players will explore the open world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which covers an area of 64 square kilometers, in the role of a lone stalker. They will carve their own path through the Zone, with local anomalies, artifacts, and every encounter (some came here for money, others are searching for the truth) hindering or aiding them.

13. Star Wars Outlaws

It is expected to be released in March for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Ubisoft claims that this is the first open-world game set in the Star Wars universe. Fortunately (at least for us), it is a single-player adventure without any hints of royal battles or tedious MMORPGs.

The events of the game will take place between the fifth and sixth episodes (which are "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi"). The main character will be Kay Vess, and her partner will be Nix, with whom they will embark on dangerous adventures.

The game will feature familiar space worlds (including Tatooine) as well as previously unseen ones. They promise a lot of fun, stealth, space battles, and regular action.

14. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

A remake of the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, released in 2004, will be released in 2024 for the Nintendo Switch. The original game was released in Japan in the summer and in other regions in the fall. It is possible that a similar release window is planned this time.

It seems that Mario, the princess, and somehow involved aliens will be present in the game. Mario, however, was originally planning adventures for completely different purposes - in search of treasures. But when Peach was kidnapped, the main character shows multitasking genius: saving the princess and not letting go of the idea of creating a financial safety net.

15. Lost Records: Bloom and Rage

It will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is an adventure game from the creators of Life is Strange, which the developers from Don't Nod position as a completely new IP. The game will revolve around high school students who find themselves involved in something unusual (whether it's magical or extraterrestrial) in the 1990s.

Almost three decades later, they find themselves together again to find answers to a topic they agreed to keep silent about. In general, everything is very mysterious, and the debut trailer doesn't reveal many secrets.

16. Contra: Operation Galuga

It will be released for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

If you close your eyes and remember the Contra series, it seems like they were some of the best games of your childhood. If you play any of them today, you realize how hardcore that childhood was. Contra: Operation Galuga is planned as a "reimagining of the original" Contra (all these "reimaginings" have become annoying, but sometimes they turn out good).

By the way, not long ago, Konami tried to revive interest in "Contra," but it didn't work out: Rogue Corps was criticized by everyone except the lazy. Maybe this time they will finally give birth to a worthy representative of the "run and gun" genre with a nod to the classics.

Contra: Operation Galuga will feature both a single-player mode (less interesting) and four-player co-op for the "Arcade" mode (which is more exciting) and two-player co-op for the story.

17. Frostpunk 2

It will be released for PC.

The sequel to the challenging and atmospheric survival strategy game. The events of the game take place 30 years after a climate catastrophe, when the Frostpunk from the original game turned the Earth into a freezing ball. The player is responsible for creating, developing, and ensuring the survival of a post-apocalyptic metropolis.

In Frostpunk 2, everything will be challenging, but this time the developers have added more variety to what the game can simulate. The city will significantly expand, new aspects of relationships and socio-economic effects will be introduced: now, it's not the weather that is the main enemy, but the humans themselves.

18. World of Goo 2

It will be released, but the release date and platforms are unknown. 2D BOY and Tomorrow Corporation say it will be in 2024. And we don't exclude the possibility that someone has been waiting for this game more eagerly than they did for Cyberpunk 2077. In general, the legendary game is returning, and you don't have to be a child again to play it, but the developers recommend remembering what it was like.

World of Goo 2 doesn't need any description, and if you haven't heard of the first game, then you haven't truly lived.

19. Senua's Saga: Hellblade II

It will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

The magnificent Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is getting a sequel. Senua's Saga: Hellblade II continues the story of the first game, with Senua returning to the dark path of consciousness in search of herself and the soul of her people, in the setting of Viking-era Iceland. The girl will once again fight her inner demons, whose destructive nature breaks through into the real world.

Get ready for the dark ASMR, which forms half of the game: judging from the trailer, the developers have not abandoned the key feature of Hellblade that creates that unique atmosphere. The main thing is not to have expectations higher than what Senua's Saga: Hellblade II delivers.

20. Tempest Rising

It will be released for PC.

The publisher has not yet determined the release date for Tempest Rising, but there are chances that the game will be released in the near future. Tempest Rising is positioned as a classic real-time strategy game, and gameplay-wise, it is said to be very similar to Command & Conquer and other similar games from the late 90s to the early 2000s.

In this single-player RTS, two factions will be available, and a third one will be added for multiplayer play. The developers took the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 as the basis for the story, but with an alternative and therefore devastating ending. 34 years later, in the fictional year of 1997, a significant part of the Earth is uninhabitable, and the two opposing sides are fighting for dominance.

Bonus, in which we briefly list the games that we wanted to include in the main list but couldn't fit.

21. Mario vs. Donkey Kong. It will be released on February 16 for the Nintendo Switch. It is a remake of the game released for Game Boy Advance in 2004. It's the same thing, but with better graphics and four-player cooperative play.

22. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake. It will be released on February 28 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Another remake of a classic game.

23. Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. It will be released on February 28 for PC, Xbox One, Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch. This time it's a remaster of the game that will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. It's hard to imagine how it will play today, but Star Wars fans will surely appreciate it.

24. Rise of the Rōnin. It will be released on March 22 for PlayStation 5. An action RPG from the creators of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Nioh, and Dead or Alive. The game is set during the final years of the Edo period, the Boshin War, with katanas, a nonlinear story, and everything you love.

25. Dragon's Dogma 2. It will be released on March 22 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Another action RPG for those who are less interested in Rise of the Rōnin. Just as Japanese clans competed with each other in the past, these two games will also compete.

26. Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2. No release date yet, it will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Same genre as the two above, but this time they chose a modern and almost fictional setting. Almost, because the World of Darkness doesn't exist. But Seattle does.

27. The Wolf Among Us 2. It will be released in 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S. A graphic adventure game in the style typical of Telltale Games projects. It is a prequel to the original The Wolf Among Us.

28. Little Nightmares III. It will be released for PC, Xbox One, Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch. A platformer, puzzle, and horror game all in one. A pair of children embark on a journey into the Unknown, where they escape from something evil while solving puzzles.

29. Chicken Police: Into the Hive. It will be released for PC. It is said to be about two detective roosters ready to uncover a global conspiracy involving insects. And all in a noir style.

30. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. It will be released for PC and consoles. It's not a remake, remaster, or something old, but a new game inspired by the recent animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Apocalypse."

31. Hades 2. It will be released for PC sometime this year. Hades 2 is a roguelike set in a magical world with black magic and violence.
