About
LCS broadcasts the League Championship Series, Riot Games' top-level League of Legends competition for North and Central America. The league also produces PROS, a podcast with professional players.[1][2][3]
From the first season to LTA
The first regular-season match took place on February 7, 2013. Counter Logic Gaming defeated Team SoloMid; Doublelift played Urgot.[4] In 2025, the competition became the northern conference of the League of Legends Championship of The Americas, or LTA. The LCS returned as an independent league in 2026 with eight teams.[5][2][6]
In 2023, Riot dropped the requirement for LCS teams to field development rosters in the North American Challengers League. The LCS Players Association voted to walk out, and Riot delayed the Summer Split by two weeks.[7] The dispute ended on June 8 with an agreement on a new business model for the NACL.[5]
The 2026 competition
The season has three stages: Lock-In, Spring and Summer. Lock-In opened with a best-of-three Swiss stage followed by a six-team playoff bracket. The winner qualified for First Stand.[8][9] Spring and Summer use best-of-three round-robin regular seasons and six-team playoffs. The top two Spring teams qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational, while Summer sends three teams to the World Championship.[8]
