About
Maya Higa teaches wildlife conservation online through Alveus Sanctuary, which she founded in February 2021.[1][2] The nonprofit in central Texas gives permanent homes to animals that cannot return to the wild.[1][2] By 2026, her livestreams had raised more than $7.5 million for conservation causes.[3]
Conservation on camera
Higa began streaming on Twitch in February 2019, initially singing before bringing falconry and wildlife education into her broadcasts.[3] She has worked as a licensed falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, zookeeper and conservation outreach educator. Her conservation podcast, launched in 2019, ran for more than 60 episodes and raised over $92,000 for conservation organizations.[2]
A fundraising stream in February 2021 raised more than $573,000 to start Alveus. The sanctuary's educational work includes Animal Quest and broadcasts with other creators.[1]
At the 2025 Streamer Awards, Higa won League of Their Own and cohosted the ceremony with QTCinderella.[3][4] She spoke at TED2026 in Vancouver on April 14, 2026.[5]
