About

SHAKA, whose real name is Chikara Kawakami, is a Twitch streamer and former professional player from Iizuka, Japan.[1]

DeToNator and PUBG

He joined DeToNator in September 2011 as a founding member of its AVA demolition team.[1] He won 18 official Alliance of Valiant Arms tournaments and represented Japan at world tournaments for four consecutive years.[1] He also competed in Overwatch before retiring from professional play in 2017.[1] He later commentated the PUBG Japan Series.[1]

Choosing streaming

His first PC gaming experiences came in junior high school, when he and his brother played on their father's work computer.[2] In a 2022 interview, he recalled having an office job while streaming as a hobby.[2] When his employer made him choose between the two, he discussed the decision with his wife and chose streaming.[2] He said he chose games because he wanted to play them, rather than simply because they were popular.[2] SHAKA now belongs to ZETA DIVISION, whose creator roster also includes k4sen.[3]
