Capricorn streamers

Pan gave himself a fish's tail and dived into a river to escape Typhon. That myth supplies one identity for Capricorn's sea-goat, a creature that is half goat and half fish.

Capricorn is cardinal earth, ruled by Saturn, and runs from December 22 to January 19. Its constellation is faint. Just one star is brighter than magnitude 3.

The name reaches beyond the stars in the Tropic of Capricorn. It remains on the map although the December solstice no longer falls in the constellation. The Sun now crosses Capricornus from late January through mid-February.
