PlayStation brings game announcements to Twitch through State of Play and PlayStation Showcase.[1][2] The brand belongs to Sony Interactive Entertainment, a Sony Group subsidiary whose business includes PlayStation products and services.[3] The original console launched in Japan on December 3, 1994.[4]
State of Play and the 2023 Showcase
Sony introduced State of Play in March 2019 and scheduled its opening episode for March 25. The announcement promised trailers and gameplay footage for upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR games.[1] A June 2025 edition was later advertised for Twitch and YouTube. It was to cover news about games coming to PlayStation 5.[5]
The PlayStation Showcase of May 24, 2023 ran for more than an hour and revealed over thirty titles.[6] Its announcement had promised games from PlayStation Studios alongside projects from outside partners and indie developers.[2] Among the reveals was Project Q, a device designed to play games installed on a PlayStation 5 by streaming them over Wi-Fi.[6]
