About
WARDELL is a Valorant player who won the FaZe Clan Valorant Invitational with TSM in August 2020 and was named the tournament's MVP.[1] TSM reached the North American First Strike final that December and lost 3-1 to 100 Thieves.[2]
University and family support
Matthew Yu, the Canadian player known as WARDELL, enrolled in kinesiology at York University intending to become a gym teacher. He left during his first semester and spent his days practising Counter-Strike and studying professional players' videos. His mother initially opposed the decision, but came to support his career after he signed with Ghost and began earning money from tournaments.[3]
Ghost Gaming and Orgless
Yu signed his first professional Counter-Strike contract with Ghost Gaming in April 2017. After Ghost released its roster, he played for independent teams including Orgless and tried Valorant when its beta launched in April 2020. He became known for playing Jett with the Operator rifle.[3]
TSM's Valorant roster
TSM signed his MouseSpaz lineup in May 2020, which included former Ghost teammate Subroza.[4][3] He left TSM in March 2022.[5]
