About

dota2mc was Maincast's Russian-language Dota 2 broadcast channel. ESL listed it for both divisions of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit CIS league under its earlier login, dota2mc_ru.[1]

Maincast's launch

Vitaliy "v1lat" Volochay and Andrey Grigoryev launched Maincast in June 2018 after working at RuHub.[2] Volochay said the founders wanted to stay in Ukraine after RuHub offered its Kyiv staff a move to Moscow.[3] The studio began with The International 2018 qualifiers, whose broadcasts also aired on XSPORT and MEGOGO.[2] Lil and XBOCT joined Maincast's qualifier coverage as analysts and commentators.[4]

Broadcast rights and tournaments

A January 2020 agreement gave Maincast exclusive rights in Russia and the CIS to ESL's Dota 2 tournaments and DreamHack's DreamLeague.[5] Its 2020 broadcasts included DreamLeague Season 13 in Leipzig and ESL One Los Angeles.[6] WePlay named Maincast its Russian-language broadcast partner for the 2021 AniMajor in Kyiv and directed viewers to dota2mc_ru.[7] In December 2021, ESL announced a four-year extension of its Maincast agreement through IEM Katowice 2027.[8]

Maincast ended its Russian-language tournament coverage on April 19, 2023, while retaining Ukrainian-language ESL rights through 2027.[9] The channel's most recent broadcast recorded by Twitch was on May 18, 2023.[10]
