About

Darren Jason Watkins Jr., known as IShowSpeed, is an American streamer who won Streamer of the Year at the Streamer Awards in 2024 and 2025.[1][2] He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 21, 2005.[1] His YouTube broadcasts include football, games such as FIFA and Grand Theft Auto, and streams from his travels.[3][1]

From gaming to football

Watkins registered his YouTube channel in 2016 and first built an audience with games including NBA 2K and Fortnite.[4][1] He told Dazed that his handle came from the childhood nickname Speedy, which referred to how fast he ran. During the pandemic, he moved to Detroit to live with his father and continued streaming with a PlayStation camera.[3] His enthusiasm for Cristiano Ronaldo became a recurring part of his broadcasts, and he met the footballer in Lisbon in June 2023.[1]

His September 2024 broadcast from Indonesia reached 1,043,028 concurrent viewers.[5]

Broadcasting from Ghana

In January 2026, he visited Asenema Waterfalls and the palace at Akropong-Akuapem, where he was given the name Barima Kofi Akuffo.[6] The visit also included a supercar event at Black Star Square in Accra.[7][6] He toured Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and took part in boxing activities in Bukom during the same trip.[6]
