About
VGBootCamp broadcasts competitive Super Smash Bros. and runs tournaments.[1][2] Brothers Calvin "GimR" Lofton and Matthew "Aposl" Lofton founded the organization in late 2008. They started with Brawl guides that helped newcomers learn competitive Smash.[3][4][1]
GimR streamed Smash @ Xanadu every week in 2014 and travelled to 26 weekend events that year.[3]
A circuit for Melee and Ultimate
The Loftons discussed a national Smash circuit in 2009 and tried to run one for Brawl and Melee in 2010. The Smash World Tour's first season was later delayed by the 2020 lockdowns.[2]
By December 2021, VGBootCamp was organizing two Glitch events a year as well as Pound, Super Smash Con and the Smash World Tour.[2] Scott "Tantalus" Robertson II, who had worked with the organization on tournaments and talent management since 2013, helped with the 2021 Tour finals remotely. He described giving Melee and Ultimate equal representation in the competition.[2]
On November 29, 2022, Smash World Tour organizers cancelled the 2022 Championships and the 2023 circuit, saying Nintendo would not grant them a license.[5] Nintendo said in a December 2 statement that it had not required the 2022 finals to be cancelled.[6]
