About

Games Done Quick runs charity speedrunning marathons and broadcasts them on Twitch. Players demonstrate how quickly they can complete games, and commentary explains their routes and techniques. The events began in 2010.[1] Founder Mike Uyama recalled moving the first marathon to his home after problems with the planned venue's internet connection.[2]

Marathons and donations

Awesome Games Done Quick raises funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, while Summer Games Done Quick supports Doctors Without Borders. SGDQ began supporting the latter charity in 2013.[3][1] Viewers can direct donations toward incentives, such as extra challenges or names chosen for game characters. Runs cover older and newer games, and some feature races or blindfolded play.[1]

Between the main marathons, the Twitch channel carries GDQ Hotfix speedrunning shows, races and tournaments. Frame Fatales is its community for women and femmes interested in speedrunning; its charity events support Malala Fund. Black in a Flash provides programming and fundraising events for Black speedrunners.[4][5]
