BobRoss is the official Twitch channel broadcasting recorded episodes of The Joy of Painting with permission from Bob Ross Inc. and Janson Media.[1]
The recorded painting lessons
The original television series ran from 1983 to 1994. In each half-hour program, Bob Ross taught landscape oil painting and completed a picture during the lesson.[2] Ross died in 1995.[3]
The Twitch Creative launch
In October 2015, Twitch used a marathon of The Joy of Painting to launch its Creative category.[4][5] The announcement set out a run of 403 episodes over eight and a half days, supported by Bob Ross Inc. and Janson Media. Twitch also introduced the KappaRoss emote for the occasion.[4]
Regular broadcasts
The following month, Twitch announced weekly broadcasts of one season at a time. The rights holders also allowed other Twitch broadcasters to restream those mini-marathons while painting along or adding commentary.[5] By December 2018, Janson Media described the channel as one it managed and advertised weekend marathons.[2]
