About
Tom Cassell, known as Syndicate, is an English gaming creator from Manchester, known for Call of Duty and Minecraft videos and a separate Life of Tom vlog channel.[1] He started his YouTube channel, The Syndicate Project, while studying software development at Clarendon Sixth Form College. After a year of making videos in his spare time, he was earning enough to work on them full time.[2]
Minecraft, Twitch and other projects
His series included Minecraft Project and the collaborative Minecraft livestream Mianite.[3][1] In August 2014, Cassell became the first person to reach one million followers on Twitch.[4] In an interview that October, he described maintaining a regular broadcast schedule and advised streamers to be themselves rather than play a fake character.[5]
Cassell also developed the Syndicate Original clothing range. In 2016, he returned to Clarendon to talk with students about his work and answer their questions.[2] His work beyond video channels included voicing Loki in the mobile game Marvel Avengers Academy.[3]
In 2016, Cassell promoted the skin-gambling site CSGO Lotto without making clear that he was its vice president, and said he would be more transparent about such disclosures in future.[1] In September 2017, he and the company's president, Trevor Martin, settled the US Federal Trade Commission's first complaint against individual social media influencers. The order requires them to disclose any material connection with the products they promote.[6]
